Our letter from President Monson:
"You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Puerto Rico San Juan East Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 23 months. You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Monday, April 26, 1010. Your assignment may be modified according to the needs of the mission president."
Our training will be completed on Friday, April 30. Senior couples do NOT receive the phased training (3 weeks in the Provo MTC plus 6 weeks of training in the Dominican Republic.)
News release Feb 7, 2010: In the Caribbean Area the Church will combine the Puerto Rico San Juan East Mission with the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission, Puerto Rico San Juan West Mission, and the West Indies Mission. The name of the Puerto Rico San Juan West Mission will be changed to the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission.
The current mission president of the Puerto Rico San Juan East mission is Ralph L. Dewsnup. The new president of the Puerto Rico San Juan mission in July will be Jorge M. Alvarado.
Lots of tropical islands. A US territory. Some English speaking islands. A temple in Santo Domingo. And a companion of my choice.

So wonderful!
That's so exciting! Congratulations!
I have friends who served in the West Indies and spoke Dutch. So that's at least 3 languages.

The new Puerto Rico San Juan East Mission will also be centered in San Juan and will contain the two stakes and one district in eastern Puerto Rico, as well as the English-speaking countries of the Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Dominica and Barbados.
Good picture map here too.
I LOVE Puerto Rico! I want to come! I really enjoyed living there. Do you know if you'll be driving a car? If you are, maybe you can go practice driving in Boston. But PR's worse. The middle finger is more common than people using their blinkers. Just to prepare you. And mosquito nets are invaluable.
We are so happy and excited! The companion of your choice quote is perfect. Yes!
What a wonderful blessing for you both!
That's exciting and awesome!!!
